Teagan’s Story: A Journey of Strength, Faith, and Love
Three-year-old Teagan McKay Fairey is a warrior in every sense of the word. Her story is one of unwavering strength, resilience, and the power of faith, love, and community. She is a beautiful, vibrant little girl with a heart full of joy and a spirit that shines brightly, even in the face of unimaginable challenges.

A Battle That Began Too Soon
Teagan’s journey began far earlier than anyone could have imagined. At just 18 months old, she started experiencing concerning symptoms—episodes of unsteadiness, changes in behavior, and moments that seemed out of place for a toddler full of life.
Her family kept a close watch, but on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14, 2023, everything changed. Teagan was playing on the floor when something suddenly seemed off. Her eyes started glazing over, she became unbalanced, and then she began vomiting. When her grandmother, Jerri, grabbed her, Teagan felt almost limp.
Her father immediately sensed something was wrong and rushed her toward town, calling his mother, a nurse, for guidance. She instructed them to meet at the local fire station, where first responders quickly assessed Teagan and determined that she was having a silent seizure. They immediately called an ambulance, which rushed her to Prisma Health Children’s Hospital.
There, Teagan underwent a series of tests, and by the next day, the family received devastating news: she had a golf ball-sized tumor in the back of her brain. Doctors explained that it needed to be removed as soon as possible, and surgery was scheduled for Thursday, May 18, 2023.

A Community United in Prayer
As the day of surgery approached, Teagan’s family, friends, and entire hometown rallied behind her. Churches, loved ones, and even strangers lifted her up in prayer. To show their support, people wore sky blue shirts—a symbol of Teagan’s beautiful blue eyes—so that every time they saw the color, they would remember to pray.
On May 18, 2023, Teagan underwent brain surgery. The prayers of an entire community surrounded her, and by God’s grace, the surgery was a success. The surgeons were able to remove the entire tumor, and in less than a week, she was able to go home.

A Rare Diagnosis & A Grueling Treatment Journey
Just eight days later, Teagan’s family met with her oncologist at Prisma Children’s Hospital. The news was unbelievable—Teagan had been diagnosed with an extremely rare brain cancer called CNS tumor with BCOR ITD. At the time, only 27 cases had ever been reported worldwide.
Because of how rare her cancer was, her oncologist reached out to specialists across the country to determine the best course of treatment. After consulting with top experts, they found a clinical trial at MUSC in Charleston that could give Teagan the best chance of survival.
Without hesitation, the family packed up and traveled to Charleston for testing. After days of evaluations, they received incredible news—Teagan qualified for the clinical trial.
On June 2023, her next journey began at MUSC Children’s Hospital, where she bravely faced treatment. Over the next several months, Teagan endured:
✔️ Four rounds of intense chemotherapy
✔️ A stem cell transplant in October 2023
The treatments were harsh, but Teagan fought with everything she had. Her strength amazed everyone around her, and through the power of prayer, love, and expert medical care, she completed her treatment and was released to come home in November 2023.
Once home, Teagan began a strict follow-up regimen, requiring:
✔️ Monthly bloodwork
✔️ MRI scans every three months to monitor for any signs of recurrence
For a time, everything seemed to be heading in the right direction. Her scans were clear, her strength was returning, and her family rejoiced in the miracle of her healing.

A Heartbreaking Setback
But in March 2025, the unthinkable happened. Teagan’s tumor had returned. It was in the same spot as before, bringing her family back to the same terrifying reality they had faced nearly two years earlier.
Now, Teagan is preparing for another surgery to remove the tumor. After the surgery, she may need to travel to Jacksonville, Florida, for six weeks of proton radiation therapy—a cutting-edge treatment that could give her the best chance at long-term survival.

Faith Over Fear
Though the road ahead is daunting, Teagan’s family remains steadfast in their faith. They know that God is still in control, and they believe that He has a plan for her life.
